In one Sunday afternoon, American football fans will gobble millions of chicken wings, chow hundreds of pizza slices, and dip into thousands of pounds of guacamole dip.
Super Bowl Sunday is coming, and most Americans will chow down. But if you’re a fan who’s more health conscious than taste driven let this article be for you! Super Bowl snacking doesn’t have to be all fat and calories.
We will give some yummy, high health, and energy alternatives, but first here’s some interesting data we uncovered.
Wingin’ it: All told, Americans will likely consume about 90 million pounds of chicken wings during Super Bowl weekend, according to the National Chicken Council.
KFC said it sells almost three times as many chicken wings on game day, compared to a typical Sunday. Dallas-based Wingstop sold more than 3 million wings in 13 hours during last year’s Super Bowl. The chain has units in Costa Mesa, Fullerton, La Habra, Lake Forest and Rancho Santa Margarita. Huntington Beach’s Wings ‘N Things (18302 Beach Blvd.) said it sold a record 35,000 wings during last year’s Super Bowl.
Pizza: Pizza Hut said its restaurants are about 60 percent busier on Super Bowl compared to a typical Sunday. The company will field 2.5 million calls on Sunday and will sell enough pizzas to cover more than 55 football fields. Domino’s Pizza said it will deliver 1.2 million pizzas Sunday, making it one of the busiest days of the year. About 60 percent of orders will be for pepperoni pizza, the company said.
Guacamole: About 49.5 million pounds of Hass avocados will be used Sunday to make guacamole, according to the Irvine-based Hass Avocado Board. That’s enough guacamole to fill a football field — end zone to end zone — at a depth of 21 feet. Now, that’s an interesting image!
