Receiver: What to Look for at the LOS

As a receiver, once you break the huddle and get to the line of scrimmage there are certain things you need to know. Your football knowledge will go a long way in determining the success of the play and even the outcome of the game.

  • How many safeties are there?
  • What is the alignment of the corners?
  • Which side of the field is the strong safety on
  • What is the play situation? (down and distance)
  • What is the game situation? (time left in the half or game)
  • What is the score situation? (two minute or four minute offense)
  • Where is the ball on the field? (hash or center)
  • What are the field conditions (they can change during a game)
  • What are the weather conditions (they can also change)

To learn the answers to these questions and why they are important be sure to grab a copy of “The Art of Playing Wide Receiver”! The answers to all the questions above and tons more are in the book. It will be the best investment you ever make if you play the position of wide receiver!
