Cover 4 is also commonly known as Quarters coverage, because the field is split into quarters by the corners and the safeties.

Cover 4 is a zone defense designed to give up short yardage plays and prevent the offense from completing long passes.

Here are the key identifiers of Cover 4:

  1. 2 Safeties deep
  2. 2 Corners are deep 8-10 yards (almost at safety depth)
